The Orseolo Basin was constructed in 1869 to provide a landing in the heart of the city for the traditional Venetian boats, the gondolas.
The body of water that Hotel Cavalletto & Doge Orseolo overlooks is named for the Orseolo family, which has owned several residences in the area from as early as the 10th century.
Just a few meters from the hotel, the designer boutiques in Calle Larga XXII Marzo and the long shopping street of the notions shops that lead to the Rialto, leave room for a moment of shopping, followed by a relaxing aperitif at the table of one of the historic bars of Saint Mark’s Square.
From Hotel Cavalletto, a brief stroll along the calli leads to Teatro La Fenice, the famous Bridge of Sighs and the landing of the ships that stop at Palazzo Grassi, the Galleries of the Accademia, the Giorgio Cini Foundation, the Casino of Venice, the Jewish Ghetto and the Lido, the home of the Venice Film Festival.
